Albert E. Chapman Ltd

Home & Gardens

Albert E Chapman Limited is proud to hold the Royal Warrant to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for upholstery and soft-furnishing and is thought to be the only business of its type to hold such a Warrant.

The eponymous Albert Chapman founded the present company in 1931 when his first major commission was the furnishing of the Directors' offices of the then newly-built ICI headquarters at Millbank, London. In 1935, his specialist skills were called on to dress Westminster Abbey for the lying-in state of His Majesty King George V and, in the following year, the Coronation of King George VI.

Since its inception, the Company has been involved with government departments responsible for the furnishing of ministry buildings, residences and royal palaces and include such commissions as Windsor Castle (draperies), Buckingham Palace (walling, throne restoration), the Royal Mews (state coach interiors) and St James Palace (throne room) to name but a few.

The Company also undertakes blue-chip projects in respect of traditional upholstery, window treatments and soft-furnishings for many high profile individuals, select hotel groups and other interior-design initiated ventures.

Perhaps the most high profile project undertaken by the Company has been the fabrication of the thrones for the Royal Barge, Spirit of Chartwell, which carried her Majesty and other members of the Royal Family for the Diamond Jubilee river pageant in 2012.
